Hawick is an old mill town, located on the river Teviot in the Scottish Borders. It is a town steeped in tradition, full of friendly folk, and surrounded by stunning scenery. Hawick's famous exports include rugby and cashmere.
Hawick celebrates many events throughout the year: we have the Blues festival, the Reivers festival, and perhaps most famously, the Common Riding.
Described as "one of the best parties in the world," the annual Common Riding is a celebration of the ancient custom of riding the boundaries of the common land, and the capture of the English flags by young men from Hawick. There's a huge range of places to visit and activities to do, both in and around Hawick. From golf to fishing, and from deer parks to abbeys, there's something for everyone.
Some Hawick facts: In 2001, the population of Hawick was 14,801 people. Hawick is one of the farthest towns from the sea in Scotland. People from Hawick are know as "Teries." Some famous faces from Hawick include Sir Chay Blythe, and Bill McLaren.
I found the B&B superb, with excellent hospitality and a fab breakfast. Alan, the owner, is very friendly and makes us feel like we are at home. I will continue to return.
